Source: LA Anchor Lawyers Up
Sources tell FTVLive that KTLA Mark Mester has gone above the union and has hired a lawyer that sources say was meeting with KTLA management Wednesday.
Although the station has made no official announcement, KTLA insiders say that Mester was suspended from the station after he called out station managers on the air and apologized on behalf of the station for how they handled the exit of Anchor Lynette Romero.
In talking to people at KTLA the newsroom seems divided as to whether Mester should be fired or not.
While most applaud him for sticking up for Romero, most agree that he violated the terms of his service agreement with the station.
FTVLive spoke with a person that recently left KTLA and they said that News Director Pete Saiers was the main reason why. The former staffer said that Saiers and General Manager Janene Drafs continue to compare LA to Seattle. Both Saiers and Drafs came from the Seattle market.
“We are not Seattle,” the former staffer said.
The problem is not just in the newsroom, viewers have noticed the revolving door of longtime staffers leaving and they are losing (lost) faith in the station.
If sources are right and Mester has lawyered up, you have to wonder if he is trying to save his job, or working on an exit agreement.
KTLA remains mum on the entire situation and that is making it tough for the staff and viewers alike.
