No Social Media, No Job?
I saw this job posting by the Tegna station in Jacksonville, Florida and one of the job requirements was interesting.
The job is for a Producer and the estimated salary is $47,790 per year.
One of the job requirements: “Strong social media skills, including an active presence on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram”
Now, as you may or may not know, I am not a fan of Facebook at all. When I get around to it, I will one day delete my Facebook account. I don’t like their privacy policy and I just don’t like the platform as a whole.
I haven’t posted to my Facebook in ages and I don’t expect to post anything in the future.
Does this mean I can’t get a producing job with the station?
I understand that I might be required to post on the station’s Facebook page and that’s fine. But, why did I have to be active on Facebook as a condition of being hired?
I’m sorry, but that is one stupid ass requirement.
Just saying….
BTW- I was not able to find an Instagram account for First Coast News News Director Joe Inderhees.
Hmmmmmm?
