Nexstar's Talent Weighs in About Loan Forgiveness
You may have heard Nexstar CEO Perry Sook claim that when it comes to news, Nexstar is unbiased, gives viewers the news and not opinion.
One the stations that Nexstar owns is WXIN in Indianapolis.
It seems at least a couple of their on-air people are more than happy to share their opinions about the college loan forgiveness program on their station-branded social media.
WXIN Weatherman Jim O’Brien posted this:
It should be pointed out that O’Brien joining the National Guard means that taxpayers help pay off thousands of dollars of his student loans. O’Brien admits this in a tweet.
Let’s say that O’Brien was in the National Guard for two years, that would be 4 semesters of school at $3300 a semester, that comes out to $13,200 in taxpayer dollars. That is more than the $10,000 that many will get in the Biden loan forgiveness plan.
Now let’s see what WXIN Traffic Anchor Britt Baker has to say about this plan?
So, because Baker worked 3 jobs 7 days a week, I guess she figures that everyone else should do the same.
Do you understand that the idea of this loan forgiveness plan is trying to make it so people don’t have to work 7 days a week, and they don’t have to work 3 jobs.
Do you feel that since you suffered, so should everyone else.
As for what you get?
Well, you get to sit in a nice cozy studio and tell people about traffic. Sounds like such hard work to tell people there is a crash on 1st Avenue. You must be exhausted at the end of the day.
Meanwhile, I have a friend that is working in an Indianapolis hospital as a nurse and pulled more double shifts during the pandemic than she can count. My guess is, she still doesn’t make as much as you do, sitting in front of a monitor and pointing out traffic slowdowns.
Is that fair?
You want to have your opinion that’s fine, but you work for a company that claims they give viewers unbiased news.
I guess your News Director CY Hoyt hasn’t explained to you or Jim that posting your political opinions on your station-branded social media accounts is really not cool and it reflects badly on the station. I did see that one viewer tried to alert the station about your post.
The viewer was “tattling” on you for making your political views known on social media. Clearly, the viewer understands the boundaries of the job better than you do.
Now, I think there is a crash on I-70 and maybe you should attend to that, you know if you’re done bitching about how people need to have as rough a life as you have had.
