Insiders tell FTVLive that Tegna’s WNEP was caught flat-footed on Saturday when a big story hit.

A mass casualty incident involving a person that drove their car through a crowd of people Saturday night.

The problem, according to WNEP insiders is that the station eliminated the weekend evening Reporter position several months ago.

As the news was breaking, sources say that the station could not find any Reporters to go out and cover this big story.

“The anchor had to go out and do it while the meteorologist anchored the 10 and 11 pm broadcasts,” said one newsroom insider to FTVLive.

And yet, there are still some who wonder why the trust in local TV news is at its lowest point.
