News Nation Drops the Ball in Their Own Backyard
Another day and another mass shooting goes down in our country.
This time it was Highland Park, IL just outside Chicago.
Around, 1:30 EDT I was flipping through the cable news channels and all of them were on the story.
Well, all except one.
Nexstar’s News Nation was showing an episode of Blue Bloods despite the fact that the shooting had taken place in their own backyard.
At 2:50 PM Eastern time, I checked the News Nation Twitter account and they had exactly one post about the shooting.
Going to the cable news station’s website at 2:50 PM and they had one story about the shooting which included a live video, not from News Nation, but from Nexstar’s WGN in Chicago. The story quoted info, not from News Nation Correspondents, but from the local paper the Chicago Sun-Times.
Hours after the shooting and the News Nation Twitter page has posted one story with a generic graphic and has not updated any information or any pictures or video from the scene.
When I check the NN Twitter at 3 PM my time, these were the latest posts.
The post at 3 PM is wishing people a “Happy 4th” while just down the block from their studio, at least 6 people are dead and another two dozen have been taken to the hospital.
“Happy 4th of July”?!
How can you say you want to be the next great cable news station when you can’t even cover a mass shooting that happened just miles away from your studio?
If I was Uncle Parry, I would be fuming and embarrassed that the company’s cable news network that he is spending millions on, completely dropped the ball on a major story that was happening right outside their door.
