Is Fox News and MSNBC Scared of Nextsar's News Nation?
I will admit that I was hoping that Nexstar’s try and a cable news channel was going to be a big success.
When Nexstar first announced News Nation to the world they promised that it was going to offer up straight news with no bias.
Finally!!!! I thought to myself that a unbiased cable news channel was exactly what American news viewers needed and I applauded the fact that Nexstar was ready to do this.
Many of you might be too young to know that there was a time when CNN was a cable news network that offered up straight news and not a hard left opinion.
Sadly, they started sailing off course and then Jeff Zucker came on board and rammed CNN into the left-wing iceberg, where it remains for the time being.
But, it wasn’t long after News Nation launched that you could see that what they said, was not what they were offering.
In their early days, NN did and interview with Donald Trump that looked like it was produced by a MAGA production team. Nexstar brought on former Trump comms boss and former Fox News head Bill Shine to consult the network.
Bill Shine doesn’t exactly scream objectivity.
The ratings for News Nation have been dismal. After more than a year they are hardly making even a small dent and many people that I have talked to outside of TV news, don’t have a clue as to what News Nation is?
Yet, News Nation’s Dan Abrams went on a rant to say that Fox News and the other cable news outlets are feeling threatened by News Nation.
While Abrams’ was able to take a few shots at a c-list celebrity, I’m still not sure that any of the cable nets are threatened by News Nation.
I wish they were, I really do. I wish News Nation was what it said it would be, a straight down the middle news operation.
But when you have Bill Shine calling the shots and you take CNN’s sloppy seconds in Chris Cuomo, I think you are veering off the straight and narrow path.
As for Dan Abrams, when you start using the right-wing’s favorite word, “Woke” you are not coming off as an unbiased host either.
Are you trying to be the next Tucker Carlson?
I still think that there is a void that needs to be filled in cable news and Nexstar could be the one to do it.
But using cable news retreads like Bill Shine, Chris Cuomo, Leland Vittert, and others is not going to get you there.
News Nation needs to quit hiring hosts and start hiring Journalists.
Then they might start heading down the correct path and viewers might start tuning in.
It will be then that the other cable news outlets might feel threatened and might change their networks from spewing hate to actually giving people the news they can use.
Just saying…
