Employee Of the Month
WPEC the Sinclair station in West Palm Beach has named their “employee of the quarter” and it is morning Producer Marcela Valdivia.
While it is nice of the station to single out a hard-working Producer, the note to the staff about her winning the employee of the quarter shows more problems in the industry.
Whichever manager wrote the memo admits Marcela is “constantly short-staffed in the chair” because her show “should have 3 producers, but rarely has been fully staffed during her tenure.” Despite that, it appears Marcela’s hard work is paying off, as “we continue to surge in our market.”
We can hope that her hard work is paying off and the fact that she is doing the job of two, or three people that her paycheck reflects that.
You would hope that Valdivia’s paycheck is double her normal salary since they admit she is doing at least double the work.
Sadly, my guess is that since this is Sinclair, her paycheck remains the same and when it is time to hand out raises, she’ll be lucky to get 2%, if that. But hey, at least she is the employee of the quarter. Back when I worked at WPEC that meant you got your own parking spot. But it still wasn’t as close to the building as the GM’s assigned space.
Congrats to Marcela Valdivia for being recognized for a job well done. If you continue to do the job despite being so short-staffed, don’t be surprised if the station never fills those openings.
As for the management at WPEC, you literally write that the morning show is “constantly short-handed” and is “rarely has been fully staffed…”
Don’t you think this is an issue that you should correct?
And Marcela, if you’re looking for a job in a bigger market that pays much better, hit us up and we’ll find you that gig.
