Scott, you were spot on in your story about KRON-TV sports director Jason Dumas posting selfies. However he doesn’t appear to care and I guess either does Nexstar. He posted a new photo showing off his parade outfit and kept the selfie posted.

I get wanting to be more casual / comfortable for parade coverage, but is jeans and a station polo too much to ask? It’s surprising a sports director would dress like this for an assignment and then post about it all over social media. Do you think team gear and sweatpants is professional/appropriate? Is this Nexstar’s standard?

Thanks,

Hey Scott!

I hope you're doing well.

I couldn't resist emailing you about Dumas @KRON. Fan Boy would be an understatement. I see this guy all the time while I'm shooting pro sports in the Bay Area for ESPN. It's embarrassing seeing the things he does when he's supposed to be an impartial journalist.

Cheers,

Scott,
I was wondering if I could get your opinion as a former ND.

When ratings are down and your ND keeps saying “ I don’t care about the ratings” is that really a sign they don’t care and all is fine?

Or, that’s what a ND says when they’re on thin ice?

Thanks

FTVLive Response:

In a perfect world, it would be nice if News Directors didn’t have to care about ratings.

It would be great if all the ND cared about was practicing top-notched Journalism and presenting stories that really do make a difference.

But, in the actual world, every ND has to care about the ratings. It is the only measuring stick as to how they are doing their job.

I remember when this happened, seeing her red Miata being towed away in v.o. footage and have followed it since even reading the book "Dead Air" by Beth Bender. The local police singled this case and called the FBI when it was too late.

But from everything I have seen and read the only person of interest was and is, John Vansice.. But that is just me...
