Adding More News
Stations continue to add more newscasts to their lineups.
With the midterms coming up, political ad dollars will be flying and much of that money will be spent for ads during the newscasts.
More newscasts, mean more ad spots. Plus, syndicated programing is getting weaker and yet more expensive. It is cheaper to do a local newscast, especially if you only add another body to two to the payroll.
Two stations are looking to add more news.
WXIX in Cincinnati is looking to add an 11AM newscast in September. "Consider it a noon newscast, an hour early," said Steve Hyvonen, WXIX News Director, in the announcement. "There is a lot happening in the Tri-State at 11 a.m. It’s the perfect time to bring viewers the breaking news and local weather they want when they want it."
WISN (Milwaukee) is going to add a new 4PM newscast starting early next month.
This newscast will replace the Ellen DeGeneres Show.
