Where is the Disclosure?
/An FTVLive reader wonders where the transparency is when it comes to the media outlets reporting Netflix?
Watching the various news outlets run stories about Netflix losing a couple hundred thousand subscribers talking doom and gloom like it's suddenly Blockbuster 2010.
Not once, not a single time, have I seen an outlet note that besides the fact they're competition to Netflix even on linear TV, they ALSO each own one or more direct competitors via streaming. Their dancing on Netflix' grave is a direct conflict of interest.
ABC owns Disney+ and most of Hulu.
NBC owns the rest of Hulu and all of Peacock.
CBS owns Paramount+ and ad-supported Pluto TV
FOX owns ad-supported Tubi and Fox Nation
CNN through Warner Bros Discovery has HBO Max and Discovery+ (and had CNN+ until an hour ago)I might even be forgetting a few. Every single org covering this story has a conflict of interest but not a peep in acknowledgement.
Plus NBC (Comcast/Xfinity) and the ABC/NBC-shared Hulu operate pay tv/cable services outright
This FTVLive reader responds to the former News Director that said how he would have handled the overweight Anchor in his shop.
Hi Scott,
Regarding the former ND and his thoughts on the overweight anchor…He said a couple of things that might indicate why he is a “former” ND.
If he told the anchor “straight out that her obesity is a threat to any advancement in her career in television.”, he would likely be unemployed by the time the 6:00 news hit air. And, his station would likely be sued for discrimination the first time the anchor didn’t get everything she asked for.
You simply can’t say things to employees that you could say 20 years ago.
Second, he says he would “enroll her in whatever health program the station has.” Really? He thinks stations have a health program? If that’s the case, why are MMJ’s eating a candy bar for lunch because they don’t have time to sit down and eat a healthy meal?
Third, he would reach out to “a personal trainer and a dietician willing to help her in exchange for air time.” I wonder how his sales manager would feel, watching a potential client get free advertising?
The business has clearly changed since he was a ND. It doesn’t sound like he would adjust too well.
