This is Now Where We Are

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis helped push through the “Don’t Say Gay” bill in the state of Florida.

Disney made a statement that they did not agree with the bill and said they were going to suspend all political campaign contributions.

DeSantis did not like the fact that Disney did not agree with him and called on the Republicans In the Florida legislature to remove of Walt Disney World's special tax district. The district was put in place back in the 60’s and it basically gave Disney control over the property they own.

They did not have to go through the red tape when it came to building the Florida theme parks and it helped Disney World become the largest single-site employer in the United States. It also helps hotels restaurants and a number of other businesses outside of Disney World bring in billions of dollars.

"If Disney wants to pick a fight, they chose the wrong guy," DeSantis asserted in a campaign fundraising email.

Basically, this was nothing more than a politician retaliating because a company did not agree with him.

I guess that this is where we are right now.

Of course, Sean Hannity went on Fox News and took DeSantis side saying, "Ask yourself, why should Disney enjoy special and generous status, especially when they continue to amplify lies [and] attack conservatives?"

I was at Disney’s EPCOT this week and saw a number of people walking around with Trump hats or conservative messages on their T-Shirts. Disney is open to anyone on any side of the political aisle.

If it wasn’t for Disney, the resident of Florida would more than likely be paying state income tax. Disney is responsible for hundreds of thousands of jobs in Florida.

As for “special status” look at every state that has a professional football team and it is a good bet that they get some sort of “special status” from the state government.

But if you add up every team in the NFL, they still don’t come close to employing as many people as Disney.

Also, go on Disney property and drive the roads. Despite traffic backed up for miles outside of Disney World, once you get inside Disney it is smooth sailing.

Why?

Because Disney designed the roadways without the state of local counties being involved. The roads work, because Disney gave it great thought, did top-notch work and no Florida resident was asked to pay for it. Also, Disney maintains those roads. But, now with DeSantis pulling their status, the local counties will be responsible to pay and upkeep those roads.

Disney has its own fire department which they staff and pay for. That again will fall on the counties and the taxpayers to flip that bill.

Disney has over a billion dollars in loans that they narrowed for the expansions of the parks. The special district was responsible for those loans. But now, it will be the counties that Disney is in that will be held responsible.

This whole thing is a giant mess and it was done because one guy didn’t like the fact, or have a thick enough skin, when someone else did not agree with him.

This was nothing more than revenge and if you want to see how revenge plays out, just look at what Putin is doing to Ukraine.

DeSantis wants to be President of the United States.

Look at what he is doing here in Florida and as yourself, is this the guy you want running our country?
