Quite a Contrast

Yesterday, FTVLive told you that Sinclair had announced a large number of promotions at the company.

Most of those that were promoted were white men and there was not a single woman.

March is women’s history month and FTVLive would like you to show you a little comparison between media companies.

The picture above is from a Graham Media event.

In the picture, you see former CEO Emily Barr (middle) along with new CEO Catherine Badalamente (left) and WJXT (Jacksonville) General Manager Terri Cope-Walton (right).

It seems like a far contrast from what you see at Sinclair.

Now, every time I post a story about what I believe is the need for more women or people of color in higher positions at media companies, I will in evidently get some hate emails.

Often they will tell me I’m an idiot and say something like, “how about hiring the best person for the job and not some (insert slur here).”

I agree, hire the best person for the job, which oftentimes is a woman that has been passed over time and time again.

Lastly, let me say this.

Say you you are offered two jobs in TV news, both are in the same market, both pay the exact same salary. One job is at a Sinclair station, the other job is at a Graham station.

Which job do you take?
