Ripped From the Headlines
It was a sad story out of Richmond, Va.
7 children were taken to the hospital after being left alone in a home, where they overdosed on medicine.
Let’s look at the headlines from the local TV stations on the story.
WTVR:
So the whole house was “rushed to the hospital”?
Or was it the kids in the house?
Also, do we need the word “rushed”?
Do they ever slowly drive people to the hospital after an overdose?
WWBT:
Ummmmm….many people recover after taking prescription medicine, that is kind of why people take it.
This was an overdose which is a bit different.
WRIC:
This station gets it right, although maybe a bit wordy for a headline, but at least it is correct.
I think the most simple headline that tells the story would have been:
“Cops Find 7 kids OD’d after being left home alone.”
