It's About Respect

Scarlett O’Hara is fresh out of school and working in his first job in TV news as an MMJ for Nexstar’s WCIA in Champaign, Illinois.

O’Hara has only been on the job for 4 months, so maybe we can give her a bit of advice.

Respect the news set.

The news set is where Journalists sit and deliver the news to the viewers of your station. The viewers tune into the anchors sitting on that set and learn the news.

Some learn that a friend or loved one passed away from the person sitting on that set. They learn of the latest job news and about the future of the region. They learn the latest on what is happening in Ukraine and how their kid in the military might be involved.

The news set should be treated with respect.

It should not be a place to post your latest dancing tiktok, or in your case as a footrest as part of your latest IG post.

TV managers that care about the business should inform their people that the news set should not be the backdrop for stupid dancing, singing, or whatever posts on social media.

The set should be treated with respect.

So, Miss O’Hara, I urge you to take your feet down, show a bit more respect and focus more on covering the news than your next social media post.

Just saying….
