Mine's Bigger
Alex Rose is a digital anchor at Nexstar’s KDVR/KWGN in Denver and for some reason, he decided to talk about how big the staff was at the station.
Then he and a viewer got into a back and forth about size.
The viewer asked him if the staff was bigger than Colorado Public Radio or the local paper.
Rose said he thought it was, but did admit that Tegna’s KUSA might be close to the Nexstar duop when it comes to staff size.
But, here is the problem with all of this. KDVR/KWGN and KUSA/KTVD plus KMGH/KCDO are all duopolies that do newscasts on both stations.
So, if you are producing a newscast for two stations, does that not dilute the product a bit? It’s not like the entire staff is working for a single station.
Rose claims his station has 44 on-air people, but if you spread it equally between the two stations, that would give each station 22 on-air people.
That doesn’t seem like very many.
But, I guess when guys start bragging about size, there will always be an asterisk here or there.
