Fox No Longer See Cable Channels as the Competition

FOX’s CEO isn’t the least bit worried about CNN or MSNBC.

In fact, he doesn’t see any of the cable channels as his competition.

Fox head Lachlan Murdoch, told investors during a conference call on Thursday that Fox News’ “competition, actually, is the broadcast networks, not a cable channel or a news channel.”

“Competition makes you better, but we’re not competing anymore with other news channels. We’re really competing with the broadcast networks,” Murdoch said, nothing that Fox News is “one of the most attractive return on capital businesses I think that we’ve seen in media” and added, “Usually that brings in competition and there is competition for Fox News.”

Looking at the crisis in the Ukraine shows how far Fox News is ahead.

It used to be when a big story such as this hit, people would tune into CNN and they would own the ratings on the story.

But, since Feb. 24th, when the Russia/Ukraine conflict really heated up, Fox News has averaged 2.21 million daytime viewers, while CNN has averaged 1.22 million and MSNBC has averaged 953,000 viewers during the day.

That never would have happened until Jeff Zucker walked in and ruined CNN.

Also, CNN media critics have spent years highlighting and criticizing Fox News. Marketing 101 would tell you, you never spend so much time talking about your competition.
