Olympics Ratings Continue to Tank
Viewership of NBC’s Winter Olympics are likely to finish at the bottom on the heap and you have to wonder if the Olympics will ever be “must-watch” TV moving forward.
Back in 2014, NBC paid over $7 billion bucks for the rights to the Olympics until 2032. At the time, it seemed like NBC had felt they made a great deal.
But, last year’s make-up Summer Games in Japan were a ratings bust and this year’s Winter Games are tanking badly.
The ratings have fallen to the point it is around half the viewers that watched the games in 2018 held at PyeongChang, South Korea.
Speaking on a personal note, I haven’t watched a single second of the games and I don’t expect that I will.
People say that NBC has packed the Olympic coverage with so many sponsorships that it is hard for them to watch.
At this point we have to ask, are the Olympic Games even relevant anymore?
