You Know It's Ratings When....

You might be surprised at all the longtime Journalists that have been announcing their retirements lately.

Of course, Journalists love to save such announcements for the ratings books and that is exactly what longtime WCVB Anchor/Reporter Janet Wu has done.

Wu has been giving the news in Boston for 5 decades and she says she is going to retire. No, not today, or in two weeks, or not even this month. She said that she will be retiring at the end of the year. But, you see late December is not a ratings period, so you need to do it now.

“For nearly five decades, I’ve had the privilege of reporting on the most significant news stories and political events in Massachusetts and hopefully I have gained the trust of viewers and respect of politicians while covering the political stories that personally impact their lives,” said Wu when making the announcement. “I’ve covered 12 gubernatorial administrations and countless other statewide and congressional races. It is simply time to move on.”

“Throughout Janet's career, she has been front and center covering the most important stories across Boston’s political landscape," said Margaret Cronan, WCVB Channel 5 News Director. "Her knowledge and expertise have been valuable resources, and her tenacity in holding politicians accountable as well as her commitment to our communities have set a powerful example for investigative and political journalists everywhere. Janet will always be a part of WCVB’s legacy.”
