I Don't Think So...
Here’s an email from a TV newsie that gets it, about a TV newsie that doesn’t.
Hey Scott,
I’m stunned to see that Caroline Collins is going to a top ten market. I’m going to take a guess and say she’s going to FOX26 (KRIV) because she’s following a lot of their affiliated accounts on Instagram.
She’s a slap in the face to the rest of the women who are in this industry putting news, and not ourselves, first. I’m not bothered by news people showing their fun personalities through social media, but she’s been an absolute joke. She tried to be an influencer with her discount codes and free shoes. She’s posted dances on the station set that are soo inappropriate, along with bikini pics from a family trip with her ass hanging out. Recently she’s been posting videos showing how she gets into work late, does her hair and makeup minutes before the show starts, and breezes into the studio 30 seconds before she’s on-air. It’s so disrespectful to the producer and director who are probably waiting on her and wondering if she’ll make it in time, when her priority is showing how far she can push it for TikTok content. Did she even read her scripts?
Her videos are collectively getting millions of views and teaching the younger newsroom employees that they can act like her and go all the way to the top.
I don’t think she’s a bad person. I don’t know her. But I do think she needs a major reality check, and hopefully management at her next station isn’t afraid to give it to her.
I have some disheartening news for you, if she is indeed headed to The Firm’s station in Houston, management isn’t going to change anything.
And that my friends is the reason TV news has lost the trust of the viewers.
