This Gives Journalism a Black Eye
There is a story that has rocked the media in Albuquerque.
Longtime Albuquerque Journal reporter Joline Gutierrez Krueger recently retired (May 2022). Shortly thereafter Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller had a book published praising him for his leadership abilities during COVID and the 2020 riots.
Who wrote the book?
Joline Gutierrez Krueger.
When did she start getting paid by Mayor Keller to write the book? In April 2021, a full year before she retired. She never disclosed this to the editors at the newspaper that had employed her for decades. The Journal reporters are livid. Local TV media is having a heyday. Krueger was paid $45,000 of taxpayer dollars while she was writing about (and praising) Mayor Keller during her last year at the Journal.
As the editor of the Journal states, it’s a clear violation of journalistic credibility.
The good part of this story is that The Journal reported this story, and didn’t try and hide it, nor are they defending it.
I wonder how many TV stations would have done the same?
Just asking….
