Hi Scott

 I feel It is a bit unfair of me or others who hold solid credentials in broadcasting to criticize these new inexperienced hires. They are way over their heads, especially in larger markets and maybe because of age or inexperience, they fail to understand that their words and their actions have meaning.  They work hard to promote their image all over social media daily like their bosses want them to do, .but that is not what journalism is about. Like a previous emailer mentioned, good Journalism will get you likes too. You used to need solid experience in many small markets over many years to build your resume to be even considered for employment at a major station. Nowadays, people routinely make the jump from small markets to big markets in just a year or two. Why? They are pretty/handsome, social media influencers and work cheap. Journalism skills are not a requirement, or a low one.  The station groups are to blame because they view news as a money maker. Keep costs low, make money, rinse and repeat.

 It seems those who really care these days are carrying the flag for a dying business. But it’s not a dying business. It makes Billions in profits yearly, but the lack-of-imagination heads of these media companies lead by cost control and not innovation. Imagine a streaming service never offering new content, never investing in new shows or improving their viewing experience. They would tank too.

Hi Scott,

Here are my important questions to Nexstar (RE KDVR|KWGN):

Why is Nexstar willing to invest in a new set that I'm sure is insanely expensive because of the couple hundred displays, when their previous set was only a few years old, and when they're losing tons of air and news staff due to lack of employment mobility and salary increases?

Why is a liability like a news set (can't convert into a ratings bump), more important than the local journalism that your station supposedly produces (and when you're vastly underutilizing historic KWGN)?

Why is Nexstar satisfied with a station that doesn't care about or understand it's local market by telling spot news, with green Gen Z-ers (in Market 17 - REALLY!?), and a marketing department who can't put together a worthy brand that won't get their vehicles damaged by Coloradoans who HATE Fox News.

- Nexstar isn't interested in Denver and they are willing to tank their stations here to subsidize a Me-Too Cable News Channel that will never go anywhere. It's disgusting. I'm tired of non-local ownership.

That recent poll about the low level of trust with local TV news: Could part of the low credibility of local TV news may be due to the non-stop political attack ads running in some parts of the US?

Where I live in Nevada, whole stop-sets in TV newscasts are back-to-back political attack ads. With political interests buying massive amounts of air-time at local TV stations, which are financially supporting the TV stations, how can local TV news be viewed as being balanced and trusted?

When it comes to polling accuracy: Considering most people I know of screen their incoming phone calls with voice mail, and don't answer the phone to unknown caller IDs, how can phone polling have any accuracy? After all, those polling outfits making phone calls don't leave voice mail messages for a return phone number to call.

Possibly people of a particular disposition or temperament always answer the ringing phone; but for those that rely on voice mail and don't answer their phone, the polling survey outfits are missing out on the opinions of those that screen their incoming phone calls via voice mail.

A week from Monday, those that still watch The Today Show will likely have to suffer through the parade of (look at us, we’re so likable) “journalists” march onto Rockefeller Plaza, revealing their cliched costumes, none with an ounce of creativity, irony, or humor. (If, God forbid, there was a terrorist attack on Halloween at 8:30 am, the news would be delivered to the nation by SpongeBob SquarePants and Yoda. Yes, two previous costumes.)

Here is a free idea for the producers of The Today Show. Just allow each one of the two dozen Today Show hosts to pick their favorite costume from the crowd in The Plaza, and do a quick interview with that viewer. As skilled broadcasters, each host should be able to elevate the short segment and shine. I think that will be much better and more interesting television than dressing everyone up as the cast of Peanuts, mainly to exclaim “look at me! I’m Lucy! Look at me! I’m Linus! Look at me! I’m Snoopy!” (Sadly, yes, this was actually done before.)

Ok, here is another free idea. Dress someone in a white sheet with 2 eyeholes with a natty toupee on top. “I’m the ghost of Willard Scott! And I just love your program! I watch every day! Wait a minute,…..…..this isn’t Good Morning America! I’M AT THE WRONG SHOW!” Ok, maybe it won’t join the Ed Ames tomahawk throw in the NBC comedy Hall of Fame, but it’s at least as funny as the Dancing Itos,……….which the entire Today Show cast may be in wardrobe and getting fitted for now.
