The number 1 station in the number 1 market has a new News Director.

WABC named Scott Matthews as the station’s new News Director. The move is effective immediately.

“I am excited to join and lead the No. 1 news team in the country,” Matthews said. “Eyewitness News has a long history of telling important stories and bringing millions of viewers vital information that impacts their lives. I look forward to working alongside of the incredible individuals who produce the top-notch content that populates WABC 7’s media platforms.”

Matthews most recently worked at CNN helping develop weekly news series across CNN platforms.

He also spent 8 years at CNBC.
