Coming Up Shortt

Yesterday, FTVLive showed you a video from WDKY (Lexington) Reporter Josh Shortt in which he reported live from the scene of a fire.

We didn’t say much about the story, other than the fact that Shortt did not appear to have any light on him.

Shortt emailed FTVLive and said he had a light with him, he just didn’t have time to set it up, due to the fact it was “stressful breaking news.”

Looking at the video, it seemed he had more than enough time to write an entire script. He appears to dive for copy a number of times in his report.

Shortt wanted FTVLive to pull the story because he was “not a fan of how me or my station was portrayed.”

We emailed Shortt back and asked him if he takes stories down of the station’s website when people email him and say they didn’t like the story and want it taken down?

He did not respond.

Some advice for Mr. Shortt…

You are a public figure on TV, you will get some criticism.

Some fair, some not.

Get some thicker skin and learn to deal with that.

Lastly, it takes seconds to throw up a light. You wouldn’t do a live hit without a camera, the lighting is almost as important.

Lastly, don’t get “stressed” over breaking news, that’s part of your job.

Stress is the firefighters working to put the fire out.

Stress is for the people that occupied the building.

Just relax and tell viewers the story.
