Journalism From an Armchair

I guess this is what passes as Journalism these days.

Tegna’s KBMT in Beaumont, Texas tried to cover the story of empty shelves at grocery stores.

The Tegna station said that people are experiencing empty shelves, and some favorite items are missing.

So, KBMT said, “We decided to see for ourselves, what sought-after items are out of stock right now, and are there any substitutes available?”

Now, you might think that meant that the station would send a Reporter to a number of stories in the area to look at what is and is not on the shelves?

Right?

Nope…

"We decided to see for ourselves, what sought-after items are out of stock right now, and are there any substitutes available? After placing an Instacart order to Kroger, we were able to get most of the items we ordered but they had to substitute Fritos scoops for original Fritos and Lunchables ham and cheddar cheese for the ham and American cheese version."

They didn't even go inside a grocery store -- they just had groceries DELIVERED from one store.

It also appears that the station did NOT appear to contact ANY grocery store for a response to the story they were covering.

How did they find out that some items might be missing in the stores?

They and I’m not making this up, scrolled through Facebook.

They sent the Reporter to front a live shot outside the store, but it appears he never stepped inside a store for the story.

Lastly, they admit that they were able to get most of the items that they were looking for.

I’m sorry, this is not Journalism and it shows again, how little Tegna seems to care about doing real Journalism.
