Looking at the News Nation Numbers
This week, Nexstar’s News Nation debuted their new morning newscast that features former ABC newser Adrienne Bankert.
News Nation also debuted a new show by Dan Abrams, also an ABC News vet.
We said we would try and get you the ratings for the Nexstar cable station.
As we pointed out when it comes to debut shows with all the fanfare, you see pretty good numbers, followed by a drop-off in the coming weeks.
Well, after looking at the ratings, I think Nexstar is hoping the opposite is the case. News Nation’s Morning in America pulled just 12,000 TOTAL viewers and an awful 1,000 viewers in the 25-54 demo. I don’t know what show Morning in America replaced, but last week that show pulled in 60,000 viewers and 7,00 in the demo. Looking at the year-to-year numbers and the new Nexstar morning show shed nearly 80,000 viewers in the time period.
As for Dan Abrams show, the news is a bit better. His show replaced the one hosted by former Fox News host Leland Vittert and Abrams’ show did improve slightly on those ratings.
But, it pulled just 43,000 viewers in the prime 8 PM time slot.
To put that in perspective, CNN’s Chris Cuomo had his worst Monday night of the year and still managed to pull in over 700,000 viewers.
Nexstar as spent a ton of money on News Nation and so far it has been a ratings bust with viewers.
Hopefully, they can figure out a way to turn it around, because clearly what they are doing now Is not working.
