Maybe Fox News Could Have Done This Earlier
I still shake my head over the fact that COVID became as much of a political story as it did a health story.
It didn’t take very long for the COVID pandemic to become political. It appeared to start with Donald Trump and his downplaying of the virus, very early on.
Many at Fox News backed Trump. Early on, Fox News host Sean Hannity argued that the virus sweeping the globe hasn't yet killed any Americans, and compared it to the seasonal flu, which took 61,000 lives in the US in 2017-2018. Hannity added at the time, that Democrats want the virus to spread in order to "wreak havoc" and undermine President Donald Trump.
"Many on the left are all but rooting for coronavirus to wreak havoc in the United States," Hannity told his more than 3 million viewers at the time.
After millions were infected and hundreds of thousands of Americans’ died, a number of people at Fox News changed their tune on the virus, including Sean Hannity.
There are still others at Fox that continue to downplay COVID and the effectiveness of the vaccine.
A few weeks ago, Fox News started airing a promo that urged its viewers to get the vaccine.
And guess what?
The promo is working!
According to a new poll, vaccine skepticism among Fox News viewers hit its lowest level since March.
Morning Consult, which conducts weekly polls tracking vaccine skepticism among between 26,675 and 43,054 U.S. adults, reported 27% of Fox News viewers were unsure about or unwilling to get the Covid-19 vaccine in its August 2 poll.
That 27% figure marks a record low for Fox News viewers since the question was first asked in March, and is down from 30% last week and 37% in mid-March.
While it is good news that Fox News promos are working, you must wonder, why didn’t they do this earlier?
Just asking….
