Crossing Lake Erie

Give WKBW Anchor/Reporter Jeff Slawson for one of the shortest sign-offs and goodbyes as he announced he was leaving the Scripps station.

Slawson ended the newscast by quoting the band NSYNC, saying, “it ain’t no lie, bye, bye, bye” and smiled as he said it.

Slawson took to social media to say that  he, his wife and puppy are moving to Cleveland and he will become the evening Digital Anchor/Reporter at WOIO in Cleveland.

“I can’t wait to get started on what surely is the future of news,” he wrote.

The Buffalo News writes that Slawson is the third veteran anchor or reporter to recently say “bye bye bye” to the station.

Veteran anchor Keith Radford retired in late June and award-winning investigative journalist Charlie Specht left WKBW last week to rejoin The Buffalo News.

WKBW was at one time one of the highest-rated local TV stations in the country but went from first to worst when it was owned by Granite Broadcasting.

The station is now owned by Scripps and despite the company’s effort, they have not been able to move WKBW from the ratings basement.
