This woman wants to respond to the FTVLive story about how WANE-TV (Ft. Wayne) and the station’s lack of diversity with their on-air news talent.

Email:

Scott Jones posted an article today in which he feels Wane TV should add more minorities on their TV reporting staff.

1. Mr. Jones, Wane TV has no control over who applies for their positions. Did it ever occur to you that maybe no minorities applied for the morning anchor job?

2. Mr. Jones, stop stirring up trouble. Shame on you for making an issue where there isn't one.

Wane TV is just fine the way it is. They're doing a great job.

First off Mari, when it comes to diversity in the media, I’ll stop stirring the pot as soon as media companies fix the lack of diversity in their talent and management ranks.

As to the point, there is no issue at WANE. The station’s online talent bios page shows a single Black person. That IS AN ISSUE.

Lastly, Mari’s email included a picture of her in the thumbnail. See if you can guess the color of her skin?

Exactly.

This email came from a Network News Anchor. They included their name. I emailed back to ask if they wouldn’t mind if I use their name? I haven’t heard back, but when I do and they allow it, I will add their name to the email.

Scott,

Your stance on journalists being the unbiased observer is dead on the money. Sadly, with the younger “journalists” this appears to be a completely foreign concept.

Your stance is noble, but my fear is that the horse is so far out of the barn that we are never going to get it back in.

I cringe for the future of this industry.

Thanks again.

Hey there,

Good point. No one wants to be the tone deaf journalist. I try to point people who are online to the newscasts— as the industry encourages us to. Lately I’ve tried using bullet points of headlines on Twitter and Instagram, but this was a good reminder.
