Do You Know Who I Am?
We have all dealt with companies that seem to offer us less than perfect service (have you been to McDonald’s lately?).
KHOU (Houston) Anchor/Reporter Brandi Smith used her station branded Twitter account to lash out at SouthWest Airlines for cancelling a flight due to bad weather.
It seems that Smith’s kids were on supposed to be on the flight that SouthWest cancelled due to the weather.
Smith used her station branded account and her position to try and shame the airline.
“I'm a reporter in Houston.”
Really? You feel the need to pull the old, “Do You Know Who I Am?” card?
Is Tegna OK with a Reporter at one of their stations calling out an advertiser that is putting safety of their passengers and crew at the forefront?
I’m sure that SouthWest did not want to cancel the flight and I’m sure rerouting all the people on board was a major headache for them.
But hey…. Brandi Smith kids are onboard DAMN IT! Forget the weather, fly those kids home now!!!
I just wonder if the flight took off and hot bad weather and a catastrophe happened. Would Smith then be mad that the flight took off at all?
Smith then was outraged when she called SouthWest Airlines agent:
OK, if you are so worried that your 14 and 15 tear old can’t travel alone and deal with what that might entail, then why the hell are they traveling alone.
Smith was not satisfied with what the agent told her, so she called back.
I can only wonder how many times she said she was a TV Reporter in these calls?
Look, dealing with bad weather, or a company had be a pain in the ass. But, using your station branded account to publicly shame the company is not cool.
Maybe, SouthWest Airlines should pull their advertising from all the Tegna stations as a response to Ms. Smith’s attempts to shame them.
And it is here that we should point out the message that Brandi Smith has pinned at the top of her social media accounts:
I guess it should include and asterisk that reads, unless this is something that someone did to me, then it’s OK to blast them.
