Tegna Pissing Match
Tegna has pulled their signal from Mediacom, which is the fifth-largest cable television provider.
Tegna is trying to squeeze the cable provider into giving them more money for the right to carry their channel.
As media companies see their viewership shrink and ad sales drop, they use retransmission fees to try and fill the deficit. This is the reason that you see your cable or satellite bill increase often.
“TEGNA has become the latest station owner to exploit our Nation’s outdated federal broadcast television laws in an effort to boost its bottom line,” said Mediacom on their website.
In the end, the two sides will come to an agreement, the details of which will never be made public and viewers will then see their cable bill increase….again.
