Isn't That a Conflict?
The Wall Street Journal did a glowing story on NBC News President Cesar Conde.
The story was about how Conde sees the future in streaming and how more NBC News stars will be asked to provide separate streaming content.
In reading the story, I think Conde is right in his thinking, streaming is clearly the future.
But, what stood out to me in the story was this part.
He has spent much of his career rising through the ranks of Spanish-language networks such as Univision and Telemundo. Mr. Conde, who favors NBC-branded polos and monogrammed button-up shirts, has always been on the business side of news, unlike some industry counterparts who started out as producers. He is a corporate director at Walmart Inc. and PepsiCo Inc.
Wait! So the guy that is running NBC News also sits on the board of two of NBC’s biggest advertisers?
No one at NBC sees a problem with that?
Can you think of the head of any other network news operation that sits on board of one of their advertisers?
And Conde sits on the board of two.
Also, how did the Wall Street Journal just gloss right over this fact?
