WLS (Chicago) star Sports Anchor Mark Giangreco has been off the air for weeks and no one is saying why.

But, Robert Feder hears from sources that Giangreco could be on the verge of losing his job for a comment that he made about one of his co-workers.

Feder says that on Jan. 28th newscast, Giangreco was wrapping up a story about Canadian hockey star Spencer Jenkin painting his house while on roller skates and saying: “Gotta get him a show on DIY Network. We’ll call it ‘House Fix with Sticks,’ and Cheryl can play the ditzy, combative interior decorator. I got it all worked out.”

The “Cheryl” he was referring to is WLS Anchor Cheryl Burton and it appears that she, nor the bosses at the ABC O&O liked her being referred to as “ditzy.”

Feder reports that sources said Burton complained to management about Giangreco’s comment, resulting in his suspension.

There is speculation that the longtime Sports Anchor may not return to his job.
