News Nation Boss Quits
Jennifer Lyons was the longtime boss at WGN in Chicago.
At one point she left the station to work for the Catholic Church, but soon returned to the WGN newsroom. She was loved by the staff and helped build WGN into a top-notch newsroom.
When Nexstar decided to launch News Nation and base it out of Chicago, they tapped Lyons to be the news boss of News Nation.
She left her stable job at WGN to try and help launch a cable newscast.
News Nation launched on September 1, 2020, under Lyons’ leadership. Less than a year later, Lyons has quit the job.
The staff was told by Nexstar CEO Perry Sook that Lyons was gone and the company released a statement, “Jennifer Lyons has decided to leave her position as vice president of news at NewsNation.”
The company added that they have started a search for a replacement and hope to have that person in place quickly.
Lyons is the third domino to fall at News Nation. Her leaving follows on the heels of News Director Sandy Pudar, who left shortly after it became public that the company hired former Fox News boss Bill Shine to consult NN.
Managing Editor Richard Maginn was not far behind Pudar’s exit.
And now, Lyons is joining them by walking out.
Insiders at News Nation say all these exits can be traced back to one guy. Sean Compton is the guy in charge of News Nation, despite the fact that he has almost no news experience.
Insiders say that Compton, who brought in Shine and brags about being friends with Donald Trump is the person that is moving News Nation to the right.
NN was first billed as an un-biassed choice for viewers, but when the ratings flopped, Compton decided to try and turn News Nation into yet another conservative cable news channel.
Don’t be surprised if the person that replaces Lyons has ties to conservative news.
News Nation did a rebrand at the beginning of March and so far the ratings have been even worse than before. And, those ratings were not good.
Right now, News Nation is a train-wreck and is losing good people quickly.
Stay tuned…..
