Word is that Nexstar suit Sean Compton is set to make a big announcement later today about its cable news operation News Nation.

Despite having almost no background in TV news, Compton is the guy heading up News Nation for Nexstar.

Compton has flexed over his relationship with Donald Trump and even talked Trump into appearing on the newly created newscast.

Compton also seems to be the one that is driving News Nation to the right, after Nexstar billed It as an unbiased cable newscast.

FTVLive FIRST told you that Nexstar is using Bill Shine, a former Trump White House staffer, former Fox News boss, and some claim Roger Ailes enabler as a consultant for News Nation.

Insiders tell FTVLive that Shine was hired on in June as a “consultant” to News Nation, but the staff only recently learned about it.

News Director Sandy Pudar resigned from News Nation and sources say it was in protest to the direction Compton and Shine are taking News Nation.

“Sandy Pudar quitting is very significant. She is very close with Jennifer Lyons and for her to walk away says a lot” says a Nexstar insider, adding, “The Bill Shine hire was a huge mistake and can be traced to the overall problem with News Nation. Sean Compton’s ego.”

Nexstar is preparing to launch “The Donlon Report” on News Nation featuring Anchor Joe Donlon. Insiders tell FTVLive that show will have former Fox News staffer Justin Mannato as the EP, another former Fox News employee, and a former OAN employee will also be assigned to The Donlon Report.

“The Donlon Report will be right of right,” said one insider to FTVLive.

Another insider says that they are already seeing the conservative directives being sent down. “Twice this week directives have come down from corporate to remove COVID-19 stories from the 7 PM hour,” said a News Nation.

Outside of News Nation at Nexstar stations, Sean Compton has become akin to a for letter word.

Nexstar is having their stations run promos in their newscasts for News Nation. Promos for the station’s own newscasts have been scaled back as News Nation is getting the prime promo spots. Local stations say that News Nation has commandeered sales time as well.

“Perry Sook makes claims about Nexstar being all about local, but we are giving up so much for his national cable station,” said one Nexstar manager to FTVLive.

So, what is Nexstar’s big announcement about News Nation going to be today?

The guess is that they are adding more shows.

With Bill Shine consulting the company, don’t be surprised if the new shows have a conservative slant.
