Now He's Sorry
For many student-athletes playing college football, they dream of being selected to play in a bowl game.
They work for years, hoping that their school will be one of those that is playing in front of a national audience on New Year’s Day.
Sadly, the news started circulating that Boise State might have to withdraw from the Barstool Arizona Bowl because of COVID-19 issues within the football program.
When the news hit, WFMZ (Allentown, PA) Sports Anchor Johnny Mangano joked about it and hoped that these kids would lose their chance to play in the bowl game.
He even hoped that it would happen:
Then when it was confirmed that Boise State would have to pull out of the game, due to COVID issues, Mangano found it funny.
After a number of people rightfully called him out for his insensitive posts, Mangano tried to put the toothpaste back in the tube.
It is bad enough for someone to wish COVID on a group of college kids, but the fact that a Sports Anchor should know first hand how hard these kids worked, only to see their dream pulled away from them, is disgusting.
Hopefully, WFMZ station management will sit Mangano down and explain this to him.
Just saying….
