It's Another Ransomware Attack

Yesterday, FTVLive FIRST told you that Tegna employees were sent an internal memo informing them that the Kronos system, used to track the hours they work is down and is expected to be so for days.

Turns out this is another ransomware attack and many expect that it will be impacting businesses, including Tegna for weeks and not just days.

NPR reports that according to a spokesperson for Kronos, the ransomware attack has affected only customers that use a particular product called the Kronos Private Cloud, which apparently Tegna does.

"We took immediate action to investigate and mitigate the issue, have alerted our affected customers and informed the authorities, and are working with leading cybersecurity experts. We recognize the seriousness of the issue and have mobilized all available resources to support our customers and are working diligently to restore the affected services," the spokesperson said in a statement to NPR.

Now the question becomes about personal information.

As for personal data, what employee information is stored in Kronos — and therefore could be exposed to attackers — varies by employer.

Tegna did not address this in the email to staff.

If you work at Tegna, it might be a good idea to keep an eye on your personal information, just Incase.
