The news that a former Police Officer that was hired by KRON to protect the station’s news crews was killed while doing just that, has sent shockwaves through the newsroom.

Some inside KRON tell FTVLive that it is often an EP that implies to those going out to cover a story that “security is not needed.”

One KRON staffer said to FTVLive, “It's a problem at every Bay Area station. Producers who have no clue what it’s like to be out on the field and rather send us to dicey neighborhoods alone to get the story. KPIX is known to be the worst when it comes to not assigning guards to crews.”

Protecting your crews should be THE most important thing that news management does.
