ToldJa!
Back on October 6th, in a Patron Only story, FTVLive told you that you could expect Tegna’s KHOU to announce the hiring of former KPRC Traffic Anchor Jennifer Reyna.
FTVLive told you that Reyna was spotted inside the Tegna station and it was only a matter of time that they announced her hire.
Well, not to say we told you so, but yesterday KHOU did just that.
“We are excited to welcome Jennifer Reyna to the KHOU 11 team and her return to morning television,” said Robert Springer, General Manager KHOU 11. “In addition to her extensive knowledge and understanding of Houston’s traffic, Jennifer cares deeply about the Houston community and it comes through in every interaction you have with her.”
Sources tell FTVLive that Reyna left Graham's KPRC after the two sides could not agree on a new contract. Word is that Reyna wanted to do news anchoring and not just traffic.
Now, she signs back on at KHOU to be the Traffic Anchor. No word if KHOU promised her more later?
Reyna has a large social media following where she posts pictures of herself in swimwear and other “modeling” shots.
Word is the Tegna suits are hoping that because she is big on social media, she will bring viewers to the low-rated morning show.
Not everyone inside KHOU is thrilled with the hire.
“I don't blame Reyna. She's not a Journalist. She's a social media influencer with great makeup and a closet full of tight clothing. She's using what she's got,” said one station insider to FTVLive. “I'm disappointed in Tegna Corporate (again). So called big "J" Journalists who are always looking for the easiest way. Do they care their new traffic anchor spends 100% of her online time showing off her curves and promoting restaurants and nightclubs? Of course not because they think she'll move the numbers. Let's talk a year from now. I'll bet you a steak dinner Jennifer Reyna will have an even bigger social media following AND KHOU's morning show will still be in last place,” the staffer added.
Stay tuned….and no I am not going to take that bet.
