Anchor Says Embarrassing On Air Incident Led to Changes in His Life

Like many of us, KTTV (LA) Anchor Elex Michaelson put on some weight as the COVID pandemic stretched on.

He says, that before Covid hit, staying active was a priority. He worked with a trainer several times a week, went for runs on his own, played basketball on weekends, and regularly attended group fitness classes. The pandemic stopped almost all of that. Gyms closed, and all group activities—basketball, classes etc.—all stopped. He adds that his main source of cardio fitness was non-existent. Michaelson says that like so many, I was more stressed. And when he got more stressed, he eat more.

That meant he started putting on pounds.

His weight rose to 230 pounds and he noticed that his suits were no longer fitting correctly.

“The turning point came when I was on the set doing the news: I turned in the wrong direction, and my pants split in the back. Thankfully, I was sitting down and all of Los Angeles didn't get a view of my underwear. But, right then and there, I knew it was time for a change,” Michaelson said.

“At the time, I posted about the pants splitting on my Instagram stories and vowed to make a change. I asked my followers in social media and my friends to hold me accountable,” he said.

He says that one of the biggest changes came when he started using a meal delivery service.

He said that he got get 15 meals delivered once a week and would eat them at his desk at work.

Between the meals and a workout plan suggested by a trainer, he started getting back in shape and is now down almost 30 pounds.

He says that he feels great and his advice to others is, “If you're just getting started on your own fitness journey, my advice is to find an approach that works for you and stick with it. Slow and steady wins the race. This isn't about a diet fad or a quick fix, you need to change your lifestyle.”
