In the post on FTVLive, it read, “NewsNation could've been this but the execution was DOA with a lack of a semi well known respected person or co-anchors leading it. Like for example Ashleigh Banfield while not a fresh personality is known enough and was looking for work.”
Well, yesterday Nexstar’s News Nation announced that they have made a new hire, and guess who it is?
Yep….. Ashleigh Banfield.
And do you think anyone from Nexstar contacted us to say thanks?
FTVLive has also suggested that Nexstar move the start time of News Nation up and hour and I will guarantee the ratings will go up.
Speaking of the ratings.
The numbers for News Nation are still not good. According to Nielsen, in December News Nation pulled in just 16,000 viewers in the demo and total viewers still sat at 61,000 which is far below the 100,000+ viewers that Nexstar was hoping for.
News Nation has a chance to fill a big void and it could be successful. But, Nexstar needs to stop treating it like a mid-market, mid-western newscast and make it more watchable to a wide audience.
I’m glad they followed the advice on FTVLive about Banfield, but there is still much work to do.
