How Does Tegna Allow This to Happen?
Let’s be honest, when it comes to Journalism, Tegna is not exactly the pillar of the industry.
A company that hires comics to anchor the news and puts crap on the air is not the gold standard to Journalism and TV news.
But, you would hope that the company would at least follow some of the basics when it comes to Journalism.
Like letting one of your Anchors pimp products on the side.
WFAA (Dallas) Anchor Kara Sewell often uses her station branded social media to let her political opinions known. But she is also using her social media to sell and promote businesses.
Here is one post in which is pimping
She then points people to her YouTube where she does a full-blown infomercial for the Yoga outlet.
The post was followed with this tag:
I guess it is good to see that that the post is tagged as a paid spot, but since when does a TV station let their talent take part in commercials?
Also, when we looked at the YouTube video it only had 38 views. I hope that the Yoga place didn’t pay more than a couple of bucks to Sewell for the promotion, because it does seem to have much traction.
As for Tegna. Are you guys really OK with your news anchors pimping products? How long before we see the Tegna news anchors on commercials in the newscasts selling Honda’s?
