Shep Returns This Week

Almost a year ago, Shepard Smith stunned many at Fox News when he signed off his show and walked out the door.

This week, Smith will return to cable news and in the same time slot as he occupied at Fox News, but a different channel.

On Wednesday night, Smith kicks off his new show on CNBC.

He says that the show will be straight news with no opinion. “There’s plenty of places for opinion, for telling you how to think, and I have nothing bad to say about any of them,” Smith said.. “It’s just not what I want to do. What I want to do is this, and it just matched so perfectly.”

Deadline asked Smith if he thought about leaving the TV news business altogether when he left Fox News?  “Yes, I certainly did. When I first left, I went with my partner and we went to see family. We went to sporting events. We took a trip to North Africa. And while we were there, COVID hit, and we knew it was coming. We had stocked the freezers and ready to go hunker down. We were not fools. We saw it coming.”

But, this week he’ll be back. It’s likely he will not get nearly the ratings he got at Fox News, but he also won’t have to deal with the snarky comments from Sean Hannity for speaking the truth.

Stay tuned….
