About Those Political Ads Dollars
This was supposed to be the Presidential election that was going to make TV stations rich.
But, that might not be the case.
It seems that the Trump campaign is running out of money and has pulled most of their TV ads and is spending what they have in other areas.
Joe Biden is flush with cash, but his campaign is mainly buying up ads in only 6 states.
Biden is buying big blocks of ads in Florida, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Michigan, Wisconsin and Arizona.
While the campaign is buying ads in other states, it is not as much as TV executives had hoped for.
More than $700 million has been spent on TV ad bookings so far in 14 key states, but almost almost 85% of that money going to those 6 states.
Now, there is still PAC and outside groups money being spent and that is also showing Biden as the leader. Outside groups supporting Biden are outspending outside groups supporting Trump as well, $134 million to $103 million.
Local stations are still making money off Senate and local races, but as for the campaign for President, the dollar figure is down from what many expected.
After the election year and we move into 2021, you will not have the big political races and you will still have the pandemic. There is no doubt that next year will likely be a lean one for TV stations and we hate to be a Debbie Downer, but I think cuts will be going down in local TV.
Just be prepared.
