What About Us?
A number of Nexstar managers at the local stations have reached out to FTVLive to voice a bit of frustration.
Nexstar is just days ago from launching its cable newscast “News Nation” on WGN America. The national newscast is promising to be an objective newscast that doesn’t offer up opinion and lets the viewer make up their own mind on the story (how refreshing).
Insiders say that “News Nation” has become the top priority for the company and some local Nexstar leaders are asking, “What about us?”
Insiders say that almost every promo run on Nexstar’s local station is for News Nation. “I can’t promote my own newscast,” said one Nexstar insider.
One Left Coast news boss says that while the company is heavily promoting News Nation on his station, it will be running directly against their newscast.
“My station is full of promos, telling viewers to tune out our newscast and watch News Nation,” said the news manager to FTVLive.
Nexstar is giving their cable newscast millions of dollars in promo time and some inside the station wonder if it will work?
“Is the viewer in New York going to care about a package down by a station in Iowa?” said one Nexstar insider.
News Nation is relying on local stations to provide much of the content. Will a package geared for the viewers in Portland, play in Peoria?
Many inside the company are wondering what will happen?
“I expect that it will get a bump at launch, but what about 3 weeks or a month in?” said one Nexstar employee to FTVLive.
