Ghosted By the News Director

I came across this thread on Twitter and it has been something that I have seen for years and it is very frustrating.

You apply for a job, you talk to the News Director, they seem interested and you never hear from them again.

It has happened to me and it has likely happened to you.

News Directors ghost applicants by saying they are just too busy, but in reality they don’t have the guts to say you didn’t get the job.

When I became a News Director, I decided I would never do that. I will tell job applicants that I would give them a call either way in the next week or two. I would say, if you don’t hear from me, please call me and I would give you an answer. I never wanted to leave someone hanging.

Yes, you get busy and pulled in so many directions. But, for that person applying for the job, it is their life. They are waiting for you to give them a “yes” or a “no” and have put their life on hold.

Today with email, it is even easier to turn the job applicant down and basically say, “we are moving in a different direction.”

Sure, it sucks to get that email, but at least you can move on with your life and start looking for the next job.

News Directors that leave you hanging like that are not very good News DIrectors and maybe it is best you didn’t get the job ion the first place.

If you have a story of being ghosted in TV news, email it to me. I want to see who is still doing this and ask them why?

Here is the thread THat I saw that made me think about this….
