He owned the Blowtorch in Sac
In the same week that WSVN/WHDH owner Ed Ansin dies, we get word of another station owner that has passed.
Jon Kelly who for years was the owner of KCRA in Sacramento has died. Like Ansin, he was also 84 years old.
Kelly and his brother Robert owned KCRA for more than 3 decades and like Ed Ansin, they focused the station on news and spent money on covering news and made it the blowtorch of the market.
“He was the best owner/operator in the country" says longtime News Director Bob Jordan to FTVLive.
The two brother also bought KCPQ in Seattle.
They sold the stations to two different groups in the 1990’s for huge money.
The Sacramento stations are all now owned corporate media giants, but there was a time when a couple of brothers owned the best station in the market.
Times have changed.
RIP Jon Kelly.
