So, What About That Scripps Startup News in SoFlo?
Back in November of last year, Scripps announced that they were going to start up a news operation at WSFL in the Miami market.
WSFL was one of the stations spun off by Nexstar as part of the Tribune deal and landed in the hands of Scripps.
Then they announced that the station would be starting up a news department from scratch. “Our commitment to launch news in Miami expands Scripps’ already impressive commitment as the largest news organization in Florida,” said Brian Lawlor, president of local media for Scripps.
They went out and hired Nicole Wolfe as News Director and it was her job to start hiring positions.
But, now the COVID pandemic hit and it appears that Scripps is hitting the pause button on news at WSFL.
In fact, one person that applied for an Anchor job was told in an email that the Scripps is not even filling the position.
It is understandable as to why Scripps is pausing the venture, but we have not heard anything officially from the company.
Also, Wolfe now has the best job in TV news management. Go to work and have no staff to complain or bother you.
I’m sure a number of other News Directors are jealous.
