The Inbox...

Yesterday, FTVLive had a story about KCRG (Cedar Rapids) Assignment Manager Eric Page and his sharing the “Plandemic” video on his social media and then calling out others that disagreed with his opinion.

You can read the story here.

Another TV newsie emailed FTVLive with their thoughts on this story and about those that share misinformation.

And that is what is in today’s Inbox.

I want to personally thank you for this post.

I thought about it, but I think it is very important that you called this manager out. Plandemic is a conspiracy and should not be shared by anyone. It is misleading information that has been debunked & designed to make money and attention. Using social media as a tool, it worked. They are designed to be believed by many people and sometimes that includes people that work in news. That is a shame. This criminal doctor Mikovits is risking the health of the public, of us, for her own personal gain.

I have seen friends and family share 'Plandemic'. I am trying my best to channel that frustrated energy into something positive to move forward. I carefully and empathetically construct how to communicate to those that share the video, unless they work in news. I have zero tolerance for people that work in news that share conspiracy. I confront them on it. They have the potential to cause some decent damage with their ability to share misinformation.

Thoughts on conspiracy theorists. And how it may be more harmful to argue with them. Is it better to ignore them altogether? Maybe, maybe not. Here is a well thought out Forbes article on this topic if interested.

Debating with a passionate conspiracy theorist is like debating with a tornado. You will not win. They will continue to 'spin' logic right through you.

I am aware that more often than not, a convinced conspiracy theorist sees this kind of post, views it as an attack on their beliefs, then the conspiracy theorist is more likely to continue their belief in a conspiracy theory. I am aware anyone can fall victim to a conspiracy.

People are not comfortable with being wrong. Human nature. In response to knowing this, as a person that is passionate about news and informing the public responsibly,

I again have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to debating with conspiracy theorists that work in news, knowing the harm they can do with sharing misinformation.

Thank you for your work to help us in news be better. We must be better and hold ourselves accountable and work hard to share factual and unbiased news,
