WJZ News Director Gail Bending was walking her dog Balto in an Baltimore area park, when her dog slid down an embankment into the water.

Bending also went down the embankment while trying to save her dog. “I didn’t want to yank his neck too hard, and I just slid down,” she said.

She tried to swim, walk and find some way out, but they were stuck.

The Baltimore County Fire Department and EMS were called to the scene and were able to rescue both Bending and Balto.

We’re glad both are safe and I can assure you that if Rory ever fell into the water, there is no doubt I would be jumping in right away away to save him. I’m glad to see that Bending feels the same way about her dog.
