The Inbox
FTVLive is getting a lot of email from TV news people that are covering the coronavirus and its impact.
We are sharing some of the emails in this feature we are calling The Inbox.
Here are a couple of emails we wanted to share.
Email 1:
It is so incredibly frustrating to listen to the repeated complaints by members of our newsroom staff.
This coverage is unprecedented, and everyone is trying to navigate this situation as best they can--including management. This situation is separating the “just a job” employees (those who do just ‘enough’ to keep their job while complaining about what’s “fair”) and the “team players” (those working positively with everyone to get the job done in the best way possible).
Those of us who covered 9-11 understand that you have to be flexible, willing to change schedules, work long hours, etc. This is what journalists DO in times like these. Our job is to inform and help the public.
Sadly, in our newsroom (those who don’t have to worry about child care, elderly parents, etc.) seem to be complaining the most, while those who are coming in early and staying late, are the ones who have more to be concerned with at home.
Additionally, many of us are trying to find new ways to help the community and our viewers, and highlight the positive aspects of this situation, while others are only sharing the negative. This is a great time to work together as a TEAM.
Email 2:
I’m catching up on your stories. Thank you for keeping us newsies informed. It’s crazy in the frontlines. A whole new way of living. And thank you for these stories >> https://ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2020/3/15/gray-changes-tune-after-ftvlive-story about correct compensation on employees who are forced to self-quarantine because of the virus or if they get the virus.
All sick time SHOULD be covered.
